One more reason to HATE California

One more reason to hate California

OK, I'm not a fan of Fast Food.  Generally unhealthy and bland, it's something that I don't approve of.  But it's a matter of choice and personal responsibility.  No one holds a gun to your head and makes you eat at Fatburger, Taco Bell, Jack In The Box, or (heaven forbid) McDonalds.
But it's not against the law to eat there.
Yet.
The Los Angeles city council will consider this fall a ban on new Fast Food restaurants in South LA due to what councilwoman Jan Perry calls an overconcentration of outlets.  Statistically South LA also has the highest concentration of Obesity and Diabetes.  So the council, in typical "Liberal" style, thinks the answer is to take the choice out of people's hands and force them to be responsible.
Problem is, most people won't care.  Fast food is cheap.  And, theoretically, fast.
Granted, fast food in 2007 can be leaps and bounds better than in 1997.  If people choose to eat healthier there.  Yes, the lard burgers and fat fries are still there, but salads, chicken, and fruit are there now.  If  consumers choose to eat them!  (And let's face it, what's worse:  a double six dollar burger at Carl's Junior with cross-cut fries and a real ice cream shake, or a 40 ounce Porterhouse at a fancy steakhouse, complete with deep fried onion appetizer and double chocolate cream cheesecake dessert?)
And there's the rub.  You can't legislate common sense.  While it might be in the best interests of it's citizens and may possibly be constitutional, it certainly goes against all the individual liberties and freedoms of our land.
Personal choice and personal responsibility are cornerstones of American society.
If California really cared about the health of it's citizenry, they could make them healthier in a heartbeat by prohibiting something even deadlier.
Tobacco.
California, just like the rest of America, makes a small fortune off tobacco taxes and alcohol taxes.
Have you ever known a government to stop taxing you for any reason?
Both my parents died of cancer at age 62, their ill health exacerbated by their continued use of tobacco until their dying days.  In theory, I should be calling for a ban on tobacco and alcohol.
But I don't.
The decision to smoke, drink, or consume the wrong foods is a personal decision.  If you do something wrong or stupid, you will pay.  One way or the other.
To legislate health is to steal just another slice of the salami...
(Note: If California initiates a "Fast Food Tax", well, don't say I didn't warn you....)

Harry Reid once again proves he's an idiot.
The Ely Times quotes the Senator from San Francisco, er, Searchlight, as telling White Pine County commissioners that if they're willing to give up it's clean air, they should be willing to ship it's water to Clark County.
Bullshit.
Harry's continued drumming of the "Clean Energy" bandwagon rings hollow when he makes these kind of stupid statements.  He continues to pander to the left wing of his party.  It's a direction that will in the long run, cost him his next election.
Don't misunderstand me.  I am a huge supporter of wind power.  In fact, I still support the construction of a wind farm adjacent to the White House and Capital Hill.  It would power the entire Eastern Seaboard.  Well, at least when Congress was in session.
Seriously, though.  If Harry really...I mean really believed in alternative energy, he would not only extend the credits for home wind and solar conversion but extend credits for hybrid vehicles.   The up front costs are huge, but the long term recovery can be more than worth it!
Oh, and encourage people such as myself to continue developing our own electric vehicles like my electric trike.  It may sound frivolous, but it's more than worth it!
As far as water for Southern Nevada, well, the pipeline needs to go farther than Northern Nevada.  Canada's got lots of water they're not using...I mean, if we're gonna get all NAFTA on this stuff...
In the meantime, Harry needs to move to California.  He actually might fit in better there.
Perhaps Barney Frank needs a roommate...

Speaking of NAFTA, didja hear about that huge accident in northern Mexico where 37 people were killed when one of those "safe" Mexican trucks carrying explosives blew up after running, into another vehicle?
The explosion happened after emergency responders were already on the scene and the vehicle caught fire.
No surprise that the story didn't get much play in the media, since three reporters were among those killed.

At a time when many still advocate limiting families to two children, Russia is in full procreation mode.
President Vladimir Putin is wanting more little Russians to bolster his armies, and one Governor there is awarding prizes for all those who give birth on Russia's Constitution Day June 12th.  The Russian manufactured awards ranging from TV's to ATV's.
So September 12th has been referred to as "Conception Day".
Kinda gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Mother Russia", doesn't it.

OK, am I the only person in America who is upset about the nasty cracks the media made about Brittany Spears?
All things considered, she looked good on the MTV awards.  I think she's still got it.
Heaven knows I've taken more than my share of shots at her for her horrible bad judgement.  But those issues aside she can still perform.  Let's see if she's got the cajones to overcome this.

Speaking of cajones, Kanye West's tantrum was totally racist in nature.  The spoiled brat won't be missed at future shows.  That is, if he's a man of his word and never comes back.

Wyatt Cox's word is, well, a series of letters strung together in no particular order.  You can see lots of them at rant.wyattcox. net and even leave a few words of your own...
